We offer a complimentary free home visiting service that allows us to introduce our holidays, learn more about your holiday style and assist you to create the perfect holiday. This informal chat at home provides you with an opportunity to have all your questions answered by one of our experienced holiday team, without having to come to us. You well get loads of information on a range of holiday options and itineraries and more detailed information on our range of guest support services to suit you. You may either book your preferred date and time online or give us a call anytime to arrange a meeting.
No you will be accompanied by our friendly guest support team for the duration of your holiday. If you would like to meet further with your support team prior to the holiday, please let us know and we will arrange drop by for a chat at a time convenient to you.
Travellers with their own carer may use our travel booking and itinerary planning services to create their preferred holiday.
Your wheelchair will be carried in the luggage section of the plane. On most flights you may stay in your own chair until the just prior to boarding the plane. When airlines require prior check in t the luggage counter, an airline supplied wheelchair is offered. Passengers access their seat and with the assistance of Discovery Holidays staff, airline staff and using aisle wheelchairs, slide transfers, or hoists as required. You will experience priority boarding on and off the aircraft and your personal wheelchair will be available for collection at the point of arrival. Wheelchairs are subject to certain size restrictions and airline conditions. Please contact us for more specific information relating to you travel. Yes, friends and couples travelling together may request twin or double room accommodation as preferred.
Yes Discovery Holidays wants to provide holidays that are suitable for everyone. Our staff are skilled and experienced to supply services suited to diverse range of abilities. Our personalised services include:
- Medication support and administration
- All personal care including showering, grooming, dressing, hygiene and continence management, catheter and colostomy care.
- Nutrition and eating including modified diets. (PEG : individual application)
- Mobility assistance with walkers, frames, wheelchairs, hoist transfers and supply of commodes, shower chairs and other equipment.
- Personalised high support for communication, social, and positive behavioural outcomes. (Except where guests are known or likely to display violent, aggressive or self harming anti-social behaviour.)
We regularly arrange tours on behalf of groups of friends, families and couples who would like to travel and where not all tour guests require support services. We would be happy to arrange the tour to ensure you can travel together as a group and arrange appropriate personal support services for those guests that require assistance.
Our group holidays are based on a maximum number of 10 people travelling including support staff to maximize the flexibility and experience of everyone on the tour. We can arrange tours for larger numbers of people on request.
Our group holidays are based on minimum tour participants of 4 guests, however where guests are travelling on a 1:1 support category then tours will still proceed with a minimum of 1-2 guests.
We offer a range of alternatives for people wanting to experience a particular tour or create their dream holiday. We can individually tailor a holiday to suit your preferences or you may register your interest in other destination via our Expressions of Interest Page. Staff ratios are determined by the support needs of each holiday guest. Each guest has their own tailored package of personal support services to suit their personal preferences. See our Guest Services page for more information or give us a call anytime.
You will need spending money for any personal items you wish to buy, including souvenirs, snacks, alcoholic and soft drinks or other optional tours and activities not included in the holiday itinerary. On a general basis we recommend approximately $30-50 per day for general on tour shopping and souvenirs.
No. Discovery Holidays does not receive or administer any form of government funding to provide its services and is a user pays service. Many of our guests and their families do allocate support or respite funding towards some costs depending on their individual circumstances. You should contact your service provider or funding body to enquire about your eligibility and the flexibilities of your own funding arrangements. We can provide itemised invoices and quotes for individual seeking pre-approval with their providers.
